Appeal by the Artistic Director of the Palestine Youth Orchestra
The Palestine Youth Orchestra’s second decade starts in France
FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN – Appeal by the Artistic Director of the Palestine Youth Orchestra
Spring 2015
At the time of its first session, in August 2004, the Palestine Youth Orchestra (PYO) was no more than a chamber orchestra comprising roughly 40 young musicians residing in Palestine or neighboring countries, most of whom had no previous orchestral experience, which inevitably had its impact on the overall quality of the PYO.
Ten years on, the PYO has doubled in size, reached a level worthy of notice and has at its record international tours in Arab countries as well as European ones. It now comprises young talents living in Palestine, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Canada, the US, Honduras, Australia or Europe.
This duly transformed orchestra will inaugurate the second decade of its existence by touring France in August of 2015.
A residency in the prestigious Grand Théâtre de Provence will be followed by concerts in Paris (26 August – Auditorium Marcel Landowski), Lyon (28 August – Grand Amphithéâtre Romain de Fourvière) and Aix-en-Provence (29 August – Grand Théâtre de Provence). 20 young musicians from Conservatoires of the cities touched by the tour will join the Orchestra throughout the tour.
The Palestine Youth Orchestra was founded by the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music, a private structure – affiliated to Birzeit University – that manages, besides the PYO, several orchestral ensembles, including the Palestine National Orchestra (PNO), the natural professional destination of many PYO musicians.
International tours such the French one of the Palestine Youth Orchestra represent a considerable challenge both in terms of organization and of funding.
This letter is therefore an appeal to any person or structure that may be willing and able to assist in fundraising for the project.
Contributions can be made:
• by bank transfer (contact us by clicking here)
• by cheque to the order of the AFPS ; please include the reference "PYO" on the back
